Voting Information

You do not need to apply for a mail-in ballot this year. All active registered voters will have a ballot mailed to their registered addresses. 

UPCOMING DEADLINES:

November 3 – Election day

  • Ballots must be postmarked by 11/3

  • Drop boxes for ballots will be closed at 8 pm, Nov. 3rd

  • Deadline to drop off ballots at polling stations at 8 pm, Nov. 3rd 

November 10 – Ballots must be postmarked by 11/3 and received no later than 8 pm 11/10 

November 20 - Election results certified

VOTING OPTIONS:

  • All active registered voters will receive a Mail-In ballot in the mail. Once completed, the Mail-In ballot may be shipped by USPS, or deposited in an official ballot drop box, at your polling location, or at your county clerk’s office. If you choose to drop of your ballot at a polling station, which you may only do on election day, you can drop off your ballot and up to two other people’s ballots (3 in total) and you must bring an NJ issued ID, such as an NJ Driver’s License.

  • You may vote in-person with a paper Provisional Ballot; voting machines will not be used unless you have a disability and require ADA-conforming voting.   

INSTRUCTIONS FOR VOTING BY MAIL:

As taken from the Union County How To Vote a Vote by Mail Ballot guide:

  1. “Make your selections on the ballot using a black pen

  2. Enclose the ballot in the envelope with the Certificate

  3. Seal the envelope

  4. Complete the Certificate by filling in your name, address and town

  5. Sign the Certificate Envelope

  6. Put the Certificate Envelope in the Outer Envelope

  7. Write your return address

  8. Return your Ballot  

If you were assisted in completing your Vote by Mail Ballot:          

  • Complete the steps 1, 2 & 3 above     

  • Have your assistor complete the Certificate on the envelope

  • The Voter must sign the Certificate      

  • The Assistor must complete the bottom portion indicating that he/she assisted the voter    

  • Complete steps 6, 7 & 8 above”  

ADVICE FOR VOTING BY MAIL:

  • Sign the certificate envelope, but do not sign or initial the ballot

  • Do not detach the certificate on the envelope from the envelope

  • Seal your ballot inside the Certificate Envelope

  • If you were assisted, the assistor must sign in the appropriate location and the voter must still sign/mark as indicated

NOTES FOR VOTING BY MAIL:

  • You will not be notified if your ballot is not certified. Contact your Election Commission office with questions.

  • You can call your Election Commission office after election day to confirm if your ballot was certified, but you will not be able to take steps to fix the ballot

  • Track My Ballot indicates when the ballot was mailed from your county clerk and when it was received by your county Board of Elections; the status of rejected or received is only uploaded into the State Voter Registration System after election day

CURE LETTERS:

  • You will only receive a cure letter if there is an issues with your signature; if you did not sign your ballot or if your signature does not match the signature sample in the State Voter Registration System

  • Cure letters are due back November 18 at 12 pm; they be returned via email, fax, or mail.
